The Shard

I've not read about it until now, but from visually it is very impressive. Not just a thin needle, but actually a base that supports it.
Interestingly enough it's not just a hotel of office but more like a combined mini-city. Although I doubt that the living spaces will be anywhere near affordable.

Cool, looks really nice! 310m, wow..
Never heard of it myself either. Seems like it's gonna be the tallest building in the European Union, not counting the Eiffel Tower (324m) for some reason.
Didn't know there weren't any higher ones in the EU. Seems like most of the bigg-ass skyscrapers are in the US, Dubai or Asia.
The tallest skyscraper in Holland is only 165m.

Here in Switzerland we have high mountains, so we just put small houses on top and are higher than everyone else :D (Especially Holland :P)

Somehow that building reminded me a bit of Bubblegum Crisis, an old SciFi anime. (Masterpiece by the way.)

Skyscrapers and architecture always intrigued me. I was at the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur last month, and it looks amazing!
It's always really cool to see that joint effort can make something so impressive.
I also enjoyed walking like an ant in a cornfield in New York City. It makes you feel small, yet still amazed.
The highest house in Holland is probably only about 350m above sea level :) In the far south east near Belgium and Germany we have some hilly places.
They should really build something of 300 meters in Holland right in the middle (Utrecht I hope). You'll be able to see the sea, Germany and Belgium on a clear day :)
Actually, there is a 367m mast there, but you can't get very high in it and it's not open for the public. Our 112m high Dom Tower, built in 1254, is probably the next best thing. (I just found out they built a 1:1 replica in some theme park in Japan :o)
