LINUX and XP Help! :)

ok, so i have been pulling at threads as to why my warcraft allways needs to be manually patched,
it can never connect to the servers for the patch - upon pressing 'download patch' it automaticaly logs me off and tells me its unable to patch.

so digging into the problem, i tried a simple task of trying to run the program as the administrator.
Problem being somehow im not, im the only 'user' yet not the admin :S

I cannot seem to get the admin account to even appear on the log in screen (Win XP)
and i do not know the password,

So, i downloaded and burnt onto a CD ophcrackLive CD, which runs a mini operating system on boot up, its a Linux as far as i know, and i gotta say, its pretty dam cool! :)

Turns out there is 5 accounts,

My user
Admin
Guest
Support
Help Assistant

Is this normal? and if so, how the devil do i access admin?
I tried in cmd runnig it via netuser administrator active/:yes, even when it says sucsessful
there is still no trace!

So im looking at the possibility of wiping the whole dam thing and running either a version of XP that i can lay my hands on, or a linux, but i am a complete nub and only know of linux as an open source operating system!
but from what ive seen, im very impressed :)

any thoughts?

Yes, that is normal. And yes, Linux is cool (and Ophcrack is too good and easy to use for being freely available).

is linus safe to use with wow?

the version that comes with the crack is one made to run via a removable source like a use etc, therefore im none too confident ;)

i was thinknig maybe the more commercially used one (unbutu i think it is?)

Since I don't play anymore I am not following developments in the WoW region :) But I read that people got it to run in Linux.
I would not recommend doing that if you are not tech-savvy though. :)

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft is a starting point.

Cheers,

im kinda tech savy, just not to the point of scripting/coding :D

XP is just full of so much junk, and so open for errors. thats why i like the appeal of an OS thats been made by users for users.

all in good time, i need to store the 21 gig of musin somehow :S

Well i managed to access and admin account,
Howevever i had to get there via adding it via regedit, and there the patcher works fine (PTR)

The most notable difference is on Linux - the web browser has zero 'hiccups' whereas normally i need to leave it a good 20 secs as it freezes..

If i do go ahead, it will be the more commonly used ones as i do not want to get in completely over my head ;)

You really don't want to play games on Linux, too much of a hassle and it doesn't get the performance Windows (or Mac) does. Besides that, Linux wins.
