Web TV

Post by Dust » 24 May 2007 13:56

I am currently toying around with a new toy called Joost. It's quite interesting. It is commercial tv (with commercials), but play on demand. I think it has some privacy implications, and it uses P2P technology to distribute load among the users.
I do what I think is right. But I don't think that what I think is right can not be wrong.

I participated in the closed trial a while ago.
Looking at the traffic from my client, it seemed to make rather little use of the P2P streams from other clients, but rather connected mostly to a server farm in Luxembourg.
I think Joost has a lot of potential, especially with its widget-driven user experience, but I wonder how truly scaleable the technology is.

I wasn't overly impressed with it. But obviously it'll live or die by the content they get signed up. Last time I checked it was less than inspiring but maybe this will change.

Incidentally the trial is by invitation only, so if you want an invite PM me your email address and I'll send you one.

An other Web based TV. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to be not on-demand, but just a live stream.
