The Last Remnant

Post by Virocana » 21 Mar 2009 15:54

I don't know if I'm the one who's late, or if anyone already knows about it, but I just found what looks to be an amazing game. It's developed by Square-Enix, which is probably my god among the video game makers. Apparently it's a "Turn-based, command-based system using symbol encounters. (Wikipedia)"

The bad side is the system requirements are pretty high.

It's just released yesterday, and I think I'm going to get it tomorrow. Has anyone bought/tried it yet?

I checked the links and even started downloading the benchmark (!!). I'm still a FF fan boi so anything made by Square-Enix has my interest. Have to read a bit more before buying though money is something a student never has too much

Wow, I love Square games, can't believe I wasn't aware of this one! I have the recommended requirements like three times over, so it should run pretty smooth. Downloading the demo now :)

Edit: Runs fine, but really need a gamepad to play this game. It's a direct port from the xbox 360 version and not at all optimized for a keyboard.

It's a bit later than I expected, but I finally tried this.

What can I say, I was really impressed.
- The graphics are top notch, as expected from Square. Although I'm forced to play it in ...x480 resolution, since my graphic card is not strong enough. If your graphic card is nVidia GeForce 7600/its equivalents or lower, I'd advise you to do the same. Higher resolution would just lag too much. It should be in the 8600 or higher range to play it well with high quality graphics. Luckily, I don't find this detrimental to the playing experience.
- The voice actings are very well done too. I've only tried the English ones though. But if somehow you prefer to hear Japanese, there's a subtitle system too. The sounds are cool too. I personally love the music.
- The combat system can be a bit confusing at first, I too had a bit of a hard time keeping my units from dying in the beginning, but the learning curve is not too steep, you'll get the hang of it soon.
- As for controls, it would be really great if you have a gamepad indeed, it made navigation so much easier. But that's not to say with keyboard is hard. I tried it too, and it seems okay-ish.

Anyway, now I really can recommend this game, you won't be disappointed! :D

Damn windows only game...
I do what I think is right. But I don't think that what I think is right can not be wrong.

Just ordered a copy. Will see how it runs on my laptop, otherwise it'll have to wait until I can get back onto my main PC (3.16GHz Core 2 and two ATI 4970's should be able to handle it ).
