I played the beta at the end of June, but only for a few days.

I’m sure the only race available at the time was the greenskins. I did all the quests in the starting zone, including the zone quests and then went to the next zone, where it just seemed more of same.

You don’t need to be grouped with anyone to complete the zone quests, so when the reviewer mentions having to kill 80 of x and y mobs then anyone killing them in the zone during that phase adds to the kill total. Not sure he's correct about running up firing an arrow at the boss and getting to roll on the loot. From what I remember you had to be involved in the quest from the first phase to do so.

Questing seemed to be much the same as WOW, as in the go there, kill this etc. Some of the ideas behind the quests were a lot more fun though. I remember one where you had to be launched from a catapult on to some dwarf stronghold and then kill them :)

Combat seemed quite limited at the levels I was playing at, although I could see potential in it as you developed. I’m not sure what class the reviewer was playing but I don’t recall being able to change from DPS to healer at the drop of a hat, just by using your tactics panel.

The chat channels were awkward to use in my opinion.

All in all there seemed to be a lot of potential there, considering it was the first phase of Beta. I’m still going to buy it when it comes out and I’ve not bought any other MMO since WOW came out (actually don’t think I’ve bought any game since).

The best thing about it was playing a stupid bloodthirsty orc itself

Problem with Warhammer Online will be the time already invested in WoW. Then theres the Litch King expansion which should hit at a similar time.

Time investment in WOW means absolutely nothing.

If you think of it in this way, then WOW is a chore and a chore in which to pay for. If you think of it as a game then the time you have spent playing it has been worthwhile and great fun.

If I get more pleasure from WHO then WOW will just go on the shelf like other games I have.

For me TBC was a disappointment in terms on new ideas, something fresh, the content is just the same, same houses with coloured effect, caves look just the same. We did get new spells and a diffrent way to move around the map but nothing that's exceptional.

WOTLK will be just the same replacing Purples with Greens in your first day. I'm not really excited about WOTLK like I was TBC the novelty has warn off.

The review link posted above however doesn't make WHO seem that exciting either, I guess it's try it and see.

For me, the best thing in TBC where the smaller raid size (25 and 10 instead of 40 and 15), and the mage changes. The frost tree just feels so much more complete with the elemental.
I do what I think is right. But I don't think that what I think is right can not be wrong.

From reading the official WAR site, it's obvious they have lofty goals for the game, and quite a lot of good ideas. Whether or not the execution of those ideas will be any good remains to be seen. It is still a rather early Beta, after all, and I kind of doubt they will release in Q2 '08.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up, since I was excited about LotRO and that excitement died less then a day into the free trial...

But I don't think that overwhelmingly negative review should be trusted either. He seems a WoW fanboi at heart, no matter his protesting that he's looking for something new, and rather impatient to boot.
